I signed up for Jodi's workshop on transformational arcs because of specific comments from two acquiring editors. Jodi took the time to understand my situation, the editorial feedback, and my novella, including what I could (and should) realistically accomplish in that length piece. I didn't expect to receive such detailed one-on-one feedback.

Jodi Henley is a developmental editor based in the Seattle area, Jodi specializes in character-driven fiction, and is well-known for her ability to turn theory into practical, usable bites. A big fan of the transformational character arc, emotional structure and backstory, Jodi spends her days utilizing the information in her workshops.
Jodi believes that there is no one size fits all approach to learning, and has dedicated her workshops to helping people learn in a way that works for them.
Description of Workshop:
Your story is structurally sound, your conflict is perfect, and everyone does the right thing in the right place—SO WHY ISN’T IT WORKING???? There’s something missing and you (and your critique partners) can’t put a finger on it. Touch up those trouble spots with DIY developmental edits so you can find the issues every time. Learn to “see” where you’re throttling back on the emotion, where to slow down and expand actions or scenes, where to speed up, and how pinpoint, tiny changes can take a borderline book from four to five stars.
What is required to be prepared for this class?
A finished manuscript. Length and draft don’t matter. If it’s long, short, rough or polished, this is the workshop for you. Note: This is not a copy edit workshop. This is about making sure you’re writing a story that will grip your reader from start to finish.
Will there be homework and feedback?
You will be fixing your trouble spots in this workshop, and be provided with lots of constructive feedback, so you can replicate the process and results going forward. However, this is not the workshop for people with outlines, multiple endings or beginnings. For that, I would suggest First Draft Developmental Edits.
